Quick Links & Wolf Awareness Week

October 20, 2010 by zoologirl

  • Linnaeus, Shlinnaeus! – Fun scientific names! Though the author didn’t mention one of my favorites Aptostichus stephencolberti named after none other than Stephen Colbert. I’ll give props to anyone who can name Linnaeus’s favorite flower (without looking it up). Anyone?
  • It’s Wolf Awareness Week! So, I’m going to focus the rest of this post on wolves. The International Wolf Center has information galore online about wolves. You can learn from Frequently Asked Questions, keep up with wolves in the news, read full text scientific articles, find fun activities for kids, track wild wolves, and much, much more! The center is located in Ely, Minnesota and definitely worth a visit if you live anywhere nearby.
  • Recent news: Idaho’s governor says state will no longer manage wolves or control poaching
  • And I’ll finish off this Quick Links with some awesome wolf videos:

Was doing a search on posts about wolves and came across yours!

I have been doing some research into wolves here lately, and I’m kicking around the idea of actually traveling to Ely, MN next year to check out the International Wolf Center, even perhaps sign up for one of their seminar/classes!

Anyway, enjoyed checking out your blog! Very interesting!

Thank you! The Wolf Center is defenitly worth a visit. The staff and volunteers know so much about wolves and are excited to teach too. One of my favorite programs is where you learn about wolf communication and then go out and howl to wild wolves! I haven’t done any of their longer seminars or classes, but they look and sound great! I hope you get a chance to visit next year! There’s many other cool things to do in and around Ely, MN in case you need that extra push :)
